Shampoo Bottles

September 19, 2008

Just a quick comment on a recent hotel stay:

The little shampoo bottle had a flattened side (lengthwise). Hmmm. So what?

What hit me was that someone realized that (in most hotels) the little bottles inevitably end up rolling off the edge or even out of the soap dish embedded in the shower wall. So, you have to crouch and pick it up in a slippery shower – with no one around to hear if you slip and crack your head open!

But – if the little bottle had a flat edge, it could lay down and NOT slip and fall.

I don’t know if a lot of thought went into this design feature – or if its an accident of production (and these were actually considered defective bottles). I do know that taking the time to think about the little inconveniences your product or service causes your customers could be the best time invested.

Find the little annoyances and get rid of them and your customers and prospects may just find you that much more INDISPENSABLE.
